Regional Footy

The WA All Abilities Football Association is working to establish programs for disabled athletes based in regional Western Australia, inline with our vision to provide the opportunity for people with a disability to be involved and participate in Australian football like every other Australian.

We understand the tyranny of distance and reduced populations can make it harder to formulate a team or structured competitions for regional participants. We, therefore, are looking to form partnerships with local agencies that can assist coordinate regional programs.

Some opportunities for regional players to be involved with our programs include:-

  • Our KickAbility Online program

  • Our Regional Integrated Carnival

  • The ability for us to arrange ‘Come and Try’ days in your town or school

  • The development of club-based teams in your town.

FAQs

What’s the best way to get All Abilities Footy started in my area?

Before you sign up for sporting clubs that offer such services it’s important that you have a conversation with them directly to ensure inclusive rather than modified sports are the most appropriate path.

The club should adopt an inclusive philosophy and have that information available and on hand. This includes acknowledging that people with a disability are willing and able to be included in sport and physical activity, everyone varies in ability and skill levels, people with a disability are individuals, and clubs should group players according to their skill levels rather than segregating disabled and non-disabled participants.

Are there local agencies that can assist with my NDIS plan and joining a regional All Abilities team?

Due to the range of benefits that come from inclusion in sport (such as stress reduction and increased social interaction) the NDIS can provide funding to assist you in sports involvement by either funding the activities or the equipment.

You should always check what support categories are in your plan, assess all providers of sporting activities for the right fit for you and seek advice from plan managers or support coordinators if unsure. You can never ask too many questions!

How can I start a Footy Hub in my regional town?

You may be an enthusiastic grassroots player who has ambitions to develop as a player and to play competitively in a competition. You may have ambitions of playing for your region and state.

The good news is that the pathway is in place for you to access footy at the level that meets your needs and aspirations.

You can find your local footy club by using the regional footy club search or by contacting WA All Abilities Footy.
