Come and Try Wheelchair AFL event 2023

The second Come and Try Wheelchair Afl event held in partnership with the University of Western Australia and WAAAFA as part of the inclusion series of events took place on the 10th of October.

The program seeks to provide an opportunity for staff and students to experience adaptive sport. The event saw 34 participants join in playing Wheelchair AFL across the day, there was both students and staff of mixed gender, ability and capacity, playing together in the UWA Indoor Basketball court. Due to the positive experience and conversations had on the day, 3 new players signed up to the Wheelchair Football League, after discovering that they can overcome their disability and really enjoy the freedom of playing wheelchair sport.

The next event is a Staff disability and inclusion workshop that has both a presentation and active wheelchair component to be held on the 30th of October.

Both WAAAFA and UWA are seeking to build on these events to hopefully establish a University competition that all Major Universities can participate in where students of all capacities can play in our inclusive game.
