WA Reaches Grand Final at Wheelchair AFL National Championships
WA has completed a successful campaign at the 2023 Toyota Wheelchair AFL National Championships, reaching the Grand Final against Vic Metro in Melbourne.
In the Division 1 decider, Vic Metro claimed back-to-back Championship wins with a 57-point victory over the West Aussies 17.7 (109) to 8.4 (52).
The home side set up the result with five goals to one in the opening quarter but reaching the Division 1 Grand Final was a significant achievement for the WA side.
Through the qualifying rounds, WA finished second on the table behind Vic Metro, collecting three wins and just one defeat.
The performance of the side earned high praise from WA coach Hayden Marchetto.
“It was a terrific effort from the players, who gave everything and showed tremendous spirit through the Championships,” Marchetto said.
Marchetto believes the event was brilliantly run and brought the best out of his group.
“Getting some good results and making the Grand Final was an outstanding achievement and will give the group real momentum as we set our sights on 2024,” he said.
