Football to feature at Telethon Family Festival

The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) is thrilled to announce its participation in this Sunday’s Telethon Family Festival.

In its first year as a beneficiary of Telethon, the WAFC through its Starkick program and Kalability Kickability program by WA All

Abilities Football Association (WAAAFA) will showcase inclusive football programs.

On show will be wheelchair exhibition games showcased by WAAAFA and Rebound WA, located on the outside courts of RAC Arena.

WAAAFA Executive Officer Hayden Marchetto is excited to showcase wheelchair football to the thousands of people attending the festival.

“Wheelchair football is such a fun game,” Marchetto said.

“The best part about the sport is it can involve mixed gender teams, including a blend of players with and without a disability.

“This sport brings everyone together and is an opportunity for people with and without a disability to play in a unified competition.”

Starkick is an all-abilities football program that caters for boys and girls aged 5 to 17 who are unable to participate in a traditional sporting team environment. The program offers participants the advantages of engaging in team games and activities, learning new skills and most importantly having fun.

The Starkick information area will be located along Wellington Street with activities for the kids and information for those interested in participating in the program.

Rob Geersen, WAFC Inclusion Specialist said the generosity of Western Australians will see more kids across the state have the opportunity to play football.

“Starkick not only benefits the kids but also parents, as it’s a great opportunity to connect with other families.,” Geersen said.

“If you’re at the Telethon Family Festival on Sunday, I encourage you to come down and take part in our open session, it’s a great opportunity to experience the Starkick program,” Geersen said.
